Where do I start?

There are so many obvious ironies, most of them in plain sight, that I really don't know where to begin.  What I do know is that I promise to always tell the truth as "I see it."  I won't always be politically correct or even polite, at times, but I will always tell the truth as "I see it."
One of the most obvious ironies that I can think of at this moment is the "crap" on the television.  I mean, have you seen the commercials and advertisements lately?  They are scandalous at best.  This is the country we live in and I don't believe that the "average Joe/Jane" gives a damn about what is going on, even in their own communities.
Most citizens are too busy getting up, getting ready, going to work, becoming overworked and excessively stressed out, then waiting for the weekend, and doing it all over again.
How is this helping us?  Other than getting the everyday "stuff" done, what about what is going on right in front of us...On the news, in the paper, on the web?  Where are we as "Citizens" if we don't take an interest in things other than "American Idol" and "Facebook?"
I have my own media "issues", and I don't watch network television with commercials.  I stay away from magazines and most other political or highly opinionated publications...most of them drive me crazy.  Coming from someone who understands and has studied media, advertising, communications, demographics, and has lots of sales experience I sort of think it's strange that I feel this way.
